With Haywire coming out, Entertainment Weekly have gone back to the well with a poll on the above topic. Results so far, pretty much predictable and very Hollywood-centric:

Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley in the 'Alien' saga                                       27.40%
Uma Thurman as The Bride (aka Beatrix Kiddo) in 'Kill Bill: Vol. 1' & 'Kill Bill: Vol. 2'  20.01%
Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor in 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day'                             14.98%
Chloe Moretz as Hit Girl in 'Kick-Ass'                                                      7.04%
Kate Beckinsale as Selene in 'Underworld' series                                            5.18%
Michelle Yeoh as Yu Shu Lien in 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'                            4.58%
Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander in 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' (2009)                4.32%
Carrie-Ann Moss as Trinity in 'The Matrix' trilogy                                          4.22%
Mila Jovovich as Alice in the 'Resident Evil' films                                         3.27%
Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in 'Tomb Raider'                                               3.47%
Saoirse Ronin as Hanna in 'Hanna'                                                           1.96%
Anne Parillaud as Nikita in 'La Femme Nikita' (1990)                                        1.56%
Other                                                                                       2.01%

The problem with these polls is that of those that vote, very few if any will have seen all the movies listed and therefore the movies that have been seen most will most likely top the poll.
The list will also be limited to movies that the list compiler/s has seen or remembers.

There are of course gaping holes in the Foreign movies with only 2 non English speaking movies making the list......and those happen to have English speaking remakes made of them.

But even in the English speaking movies big omissions include:

Angelinia Jolie in Salt

Jennifer Garner as Electra in Daredevil

Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil Movies

Rhona Mitra as Eden Sinclair in Doomsaday

Olga Kurylenko as Etain in Centurion

Zoe Saldana as Cataleya Restrepo in Columbiana

& All the Sucker Punch babes!

So how comprehensive was that E weekly poll...........not very it seems!

No questioning LL's abilities Mindwitch, though I think it was film rather than TV, hence no Buffy, Xena, etc. [See the other thread which recently got bumped] But it reminds me, new series of Spartacus starts tonight. :-)

That's pretty much the dilemma. Very few people will have seen Chocolate, so it'd be doomed to a low score, even if its heroine could kick Uma Thurman's ass For Realz. It might be interesting to come up with our own selections... Hmm... For future consideration... Anyway, the two foreign films listed are likely the best-known foreign examples at this point, though the absence of the original Nikita was a bit surprising; I doubt Lisbeth Salander will still be as much in the consciousness 20 years from now.
