i don't think there is problem with nikita. This show if I were to described it is like Jason Bourne, Salt, and Alias combined. When I watch the first episode I could not quit until I finished the disc, it was that addicting.

Nikita has recruited Sarah Clarke, the 24 alum fans loved to hate, for a top-secret role, TVLine has learned exclusively. Clarke — who made a name for herself as CTU mole Nina Myers on 24 — will appear during the second half of Season 2 of The CW’s action-drama (airing Fridays at 8/7c). Yet all other details surrounding her role (character, episode count, first airdate) thus far are being kept under wraps.

This could be very cool. Probably the defining moment in our love of 24 was at the end of the first series when Nina Myers... Well, I'll avoid spoilers, but it remains one of the most memorable shocks in TV history. She's Mrs. Xander Berkeley (Percy), so that'll keep him happy. :)

One of the things I like about the show is it's not just Nikita, but all the female characters are very strong and competent - Alex and new Division head Amanda could also break your neck as easily as look at you. Nina Myers would seem to fit in alongside them really nicely. I just hope Clarke is not a heroine. I don't think our brains could handle this...

While Nikita may not be setting the overall ratings on fire, there is perhaps some hope for renewal. It's murdering the competition on social media GetGlue:

Quote:
In this week's chart, a fresh episode of "Nikita" bests "Big Bang" (again in second place) by an unprecedented margin of 77,660 (136,329 check-ins vs. 58,669 for "Big Bang"), setting a new record for the highest weekly check-in total for any TV series on GetGlue to date. We've noted in this space before that the comparatively low-rated "Nikita" has an outsize social-media footprint not only because of the youth-culture-skewing network it's on, but because dramas with convoluted plots tend to be social-media catnip. But what's particularly amazing is the high check-in-to-ratings ratio for "Nikita" this time around. Nielsen reports that Friday's episode pulled in 1.39 million viewers (up from 1.32 for the last fresh episode in March) -- which means roughly 1 in 10 "Nikita" viewers used GetGlue to check into the show.

However, the CW still hasn't announced its decisions with regards to renewing, not just Nikita, but a number of its shows including Ringer, Heart of Dixie and The Secret Circle. After a long period in this series where I was unimpressed with the storylines - I'm sorry, I don't care one whit about Michael's love child - the last couple of episodes have got back to Nikita vs. Division, and that has helped immeasurably. Hopefully, they can keep it up, return to the form of the first series, and snag a renewal, but looking at the ratings, I'm not overly optimistic.

The CW has renewed Gossip Girl and Nikita as well as freshman drama Hart of Dixie and ended the run of buzzy freshman dramas Ringer and The Secret Circle... Nikita will be back for a third go-round. In its second season, the Maggie Q-Shane West action drama moved from its plum post-The Vampire Diaries time slot to 8 p.m. Fridays, where it faced stiff competition from the final season of NBC's outgoing spy dramedy Chuck. Thus far this season, it's averaging an 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demo.

I'm fairly glad. The second series lost its way badly in the middle, but when it got back to focusing on Nikita vs. Division, it regained its footing. There's certainly no other show like it on TV, so I'm pleased it will be back.

This past Friday, I finally got a chance to watch an episode of the new Nikita series, so I'm coming very late to the party. Obviously, the plot is so caught up in a continuing story line that it's harder than most series to fully understand who the characters are and what's going on, if you tune into it cold at this point. But allowing for that, I liked it and hope to watch more of it if I can. Maggie Q comes across as a brave, principled lady, handles herself well in the gunfighting department, and you can understand why her peers look to her as a leader.

Like some others who've posted on this and other threads, I was also a fan of the 90s La Femme Nikita series starring Peta Wilson. It's impossible to fairly compare the two when I've only watched one episode of the new one (well, I also once saw the tail end of one). On that limited basis, though, I'd say that Wilson's character showed more emotional range (and, at times, more of a sense of humor) than Maggie does, which makes her more human and easier to relate to as a person. In fairness, though, seeing more episodes may change that impression of Maggie's Nikita, and it's also nothing against the actress --she's no doubt playing the character the way the writers conceive it. (Given the things she's gone through, and the danger she's always in, there's a good rationale for portraying her as emotionally detached and tightly controlled --sort of like Lady Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider films).

They are very definitely different shows, in a whole number of ways, and to an extent that quite surprised me. Thus far - I'm only about 1/3 of the way through season one of La Femme - I prefer the new version, simply because the action is much, much better handled. However, I like the more ambivalent approach taken to the organization in the original: they're totally ruthless, but are that way for a much more credible purpose, because they are often going up against the totally ruthless.

I'll save the rest of my opinions for the review. :) Meanwhile, if you missed it on the site, here's the preview of season 3:

The season premiere of Nikita scored what we believe is a series low 0.3 adults 18-49 rating, down 50% from a 0.6 for the last season premiere on September 23, 2011 and down 25% from a 0.4 for the season finale on May 18, 2012

Ouch. Unless something really surprising happens, it's toast. May not even get through a third series at this rate.

And the ratings aren't getting any better. The second episode on Friday actually dropped, from a 0.3 to a 0.2, making it "the lowest-rated show on any network this fall."

Though the piece does suggest it may get a fourth season - presumably purely to get it towards that 88-episode mark at which syndication is generally seen as viable [though there are exceptions - for example, the original Star Trek series lasted only 79 episodes] - that seems severely in doubt. For context, the premiere of Nikita pulled in about one-third less viewers than a re-run [of Beauty and the Beast] did the previous week. As for the reason? Play TV By The Numbers Fan Excuse Bingo!

Looks like there's still hope for Nikita - a slight shuffling of its Friday-night timeslot, moving it an hour earlier, and a better pairing (Arrow, rather than America's Next Top Model!), have helped boost its ratings for the past two new episodes to a 0.4 in the 18-49 demographic. That's a distinct improvement over the 0.2 reported earlier in the thread, and it seems once again to have a decent shot at making it through this season. And if it does, then the prospect of a fourth series - with the lucrative syndication rights which would likely ensue - become a good deal more plausible.

Shame the show has largely imploded, but its still the closest thing we have to a genuine action heroine on network TV.

Nikita continues to pull itself back from the brink by its bootstraps. The past three episodes have pulled in ratings for the key 18-49 demographic of 0.5, 0.4 and 0.5 respectively. Not many shows gain audience over the course of a season, but that's what we've seen here, as the series premiere got a 0.3, followed by a 0.2 for the sophomore ep, which had many people predicting cancellation in its imminent future.

The season high of 0.5 does still represent only a match for the average over the 2011-12 series. However, being moved to Friday night, generally regarded as a death-zone for shows, certainly had some impact there. A fourth season - even if it ends up being a shortened one to reach the quantity needed for show syndication seems likely.

Even though it has become a mess of whiny disinterest of late, it's still an action heroine show...
