During this month, the Action Heroine Fans group on Goodreads http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/23366.Action_Heroine_Fans is running another poll, this time for our favorite TV action heroine. Nominees are Lucy Lawless (Xena), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy), Jennifer Garner of Alias, Peta Wilson of La Femme Nikita, Diana Rigg of The Avengers, and any or all of the ladies of Charlie's Angels. Write-ins are also welcome. Again, I'll announce the results next month, after the poll closes!

We had much better participation on this poll than on the one for movie actresses (17 votes!)and the results are now in. Lucy Lawless (TV's Xena) took the top spot with six votes. For second place, Jennifer Garner of Alias and Diana Rigg (The Avengers) tied with three votes each. Both the two votes for "Other" went to Sarah Walker of Chuck. Finally, the other nominees --Sarah Michelle Gellar (a.k.a. Buffy); Peta Wilson, TV's original Nikita; and any or all of the ladies of Charlie's Angels-- each got one vote.

Interesting. Quite surprised Xena is still remembered so fondly, given it'll be a decade come June since the show finished, and it was last seen tucked away on women's channel Oxygen, which hardly seems the most appropriate home. I've recently acquired season 1, so intend to view the show from the beginning one of these days...er, make that months. It deserves a lot more coverage on the site than it's had [basically, only the finale]. Quite surprised Buffy only received a single vote. Not sure who I'd have gone for, but it probably comes down to between those two. In honor of the winner...

Good list. I'd also throw in there Witchblade, and maybe a couple of older shows/characters in Honey West and Emma Peel. Now, is the "Nikita" mentioned Peta Wilson from the old series? I've still got that queued up to watch (at some point!), curious to see how it compares with the current version.

We should make our own polls, completely write-in, with weighted statistics (i.e., your #5 vote is worth 1 point, #4 is worth 2, #3 is worth three, #2 is worth four, and your top choice is worth five). In separate categories: tv, movies, books, comics, etc.

Lists section of the board duly added. Have to come up with some content ideas, but imagine it can be more specific as well e.g. top five Michelle Yeoh films.

Like Xena, very good for the first 2 seasons or so. Then look out. It drops to mediocre and eventually arrives at awful, tarnishing your memory of what was good about it to begin with. (There was a definite shift at some point that corresponded to a change in the creative staff behind the scenes, as I recall.)

Interesting that in Japan series typically are 12 episodes or less (often just some arbitrary number, it seems) and then they just move on to another one, with few having more than one season. Maybe they've found its best to a) trust in the writers' judgment of how long a series is good for and b) keep giving the actors different roles to play and people to play against so as to keep their performances and thus their series fresh. I've only watched one US series in the past couple years (Lie to Me). More satisfied going through all the JDrama fansub archives. My list: http://www.listal.com/list/asian-favorites-hyomil Only Unfair applicable here; will make a thread for it when I can find a trailer.
