Somehow, I felt the film did seem like a walk on the nostalgic path, with choreography being very much like the old Shaw Bros films in treatment, with its fair share of blood splashes and violence that reminisces how such films were done during the yesteryears with practical effects.

Undecided on this one; I don't care for the stilted, formal, old-fashioned style of Shaw Brothers films, but I like Bai Jing and Kara Hui, so I'll await further data.

Yeah, I prefer the more fluid approach to martial arts, but this might be worth a look. The reviews I've seen to date have been a bit lukewarm:
Quote:
It's a tale of two halves, each seemingly like a telemovie on its own with a lot of unnecessary subplots that could have been dropped. If only the story and pacing was kept tight, the character development done better and having the dialogue spruced up, could this have been memorable rather than leaving an aftertaste that it's a rushed job to cash in on the recent Wing Chun craze in the cinemas

The impression seems to be that it's cashing in on the Ip Man films [which I do still want to see, being a huge Donnie Yen fan], but still worth a look: the fight scenes are getting good reviews, and that's the main thing for our purposes!

It's off-topic, I know, but Jim... have you noticed Donnie's little sister?

I saw The Adventures Of Johnny Tao back in 2008, but hadn't heard of her since. I did a little Googling and was favorably impressed:

I'll see if I can track down Give 'Em Hell, Malone, as I like Russell Mulcahy as a director. Yes, even Highlander 2. :-)
