A serious equestrian sport that's not well known, but which has been growing in popularity in recent years, is Cowboy Mounted Shooting. Contestants ride horseback at full gallop around a track, firing a .45 revolver at a series of balloons posted along the way; they're judged on the speed and accuracy of fire. Women as well as men participate, both in women's and mixed competitions, and do quite well in the latter; a couple of years ago, Melissa Dragoo won the sport's World Championship at the age of 15! "Outlaw Annie" Ellett and Kenda LeSeigne are also big names in the sport. For those interested, the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Assn. has a website,
http://www.cowboymountedshooting.com; there's also a magazine devoted to this sport,
Western Shooting Horse, which often has articles featuring women shooters. Both the website and YouTube have links to videos, mostly filmed in actual competitions, that show participants of both genders in action.
