I am probably one of the few people who didn't mind the original Bloodrayne too much. It had a loopy lunacy to it which I actually didn't hate. However, the sequel was one of the worst action-heroine flicks I've ever seen, so pardon me if my expectations for the third installment are kept well-managed. Here's the trailer for Bloodrayne: The Third Reich
Tangentially-related, I believe Boll is also making a comedy about a fat superheroine entitled Blubberella, with the studio saying, "She will kick major ass – with her major ass". I kid you not. Yeah... About that...
Have to say, Boll intrigues me. He's got a doctorate in literature, and his output swings wildly from mostly-crappy video-game adaptations to completely serious work like Darfur, about the atrocities being committed there. I think he's certainly a genius as far as self-promotion goes, that's for sure.

The original Bloodrayne wasn't too bad, although I would have loved to see Michelle Rodriquez character have full one on one lethal battle with Rayne.
The second film was terrible, but the trailer for the third film looks to be an improvement.

Uwe Boll is a legend. I love the whole "Raging Boll" concept. If you're not familiar with the story, Boll got annoyed with being criticised all the time, so challenged several journalists to a boxing match and proceeded to beat seven bells of shit of them. Its on youTube.

Jim you might want to cancel Bloodrayne 3.........the one set during the second war right?
I've seen it........it's awful and only slightly better than the terrible cowboy one.

Sure, film is subjective. In my view, BR3 is not awful. It's not great cinematic art, but it ticks all the boxes of a genre movie. What elevates it is Natassia Malthe - obviously, she's stunning. But she can act in spades and she brings it to BR3 - which, to be fair, suffers from a severely hacked up script.
The director and writer have spoken at length about this - much of the movie ended up on the cutting room floor and worse... not shot at all - which is a damn shame, because of all the BR movies, 3 really seems to be the one that the fans of the game AND the movie franchise could embrace.
Its a film worth a few viewings. Watch it once for the entirety, then watch it again for Malthe. The Canadian has some acting chops - given the full script, this movie would have been amazing. As it is... Natassia Malthe totally rescues the film - she's a wonderful actress and has made the BloodRayne (movie) character her own. Watch again for the other performances - Pare does solid work in parts, Howard clearly wanted a new conservatory and the other actors are solid for the most part (Brendan Fletcher stands out - I think he put a lot of thought into the role he was given).
I liked the movie and I think its the best of the trilogy to date. Boll is hot to trot on BR4 - I suspect this will have more budget and hopefully more input from Malthe - she's made the role her own and I reckon that she would have some great ideas as to how Rayne should be portrayed in a modern setting (the next one will be present day, Boll says).
Cheers

The IMBD viewer rating (Which I value more than the "Critics" ratings) is 3/10........about the same as I would award it.
Worth a few viewings?.........not in my book...........one viewing was painful enough!
I should note that the IMDB ratings for any Uwe Boll video-game movie are basically worthless, because of all the geeks who vote 1 by reflex [in this case, a movie he only produced!], without actually seeing it. I forget which one of his films it was - might have been the first Bloodrayne - which was in the IMDB Bottom 100 before it had actually premiered.
This isn't to say it isn't shit - you've seen it, and clearly didn't like it - but the IMDB isn't necessarily an accurate reflection here. The first Bloodrayne, which I actually didn't hate, for its loopy insanity, is at 2.0, below the sequel, which was, I agree, basically irredeemable.
Guess the only way to decide this is to watch it!

[Moved this over, since we already had a Bloodrayne thread, and this seemed more relevant there]
Ok, 90 minutes later [closer to 70, between the credits...]. I can see both points of view here. Definitely a sharp uptick than the second one. Indeed this is probably the best in the series to date, in terms of cinematic quality, in part because there wasn't the insane casting which plagued the first one e.g. Meatloaf, Michael Madsen and Michelle Rodriguez should not be in any film about the Middle Ages.
That said... It did seem like a 70-minute edit of a two-hour movie, and with the plot some way short of gelling coherently. I did like the "Nazi vampire" concept, and was reminded a bit of Innocent Blood, where the female vampire infected a mob boss, and had to clean up her mess. But it didn't have anything like that one's wit - and, of course, my wife had to walk in during the gratuitous lesbian canoodling...
Overall? It was okay. Not sorry to have watched it, but not likely to make too much effort to watch it again, though if it strayed across the cable... 2 1/2 or 3 crossed stakes out of five, not quite sure yet. Full review to follow in next week's site update.
