Want to discuss this? GirlsWithGuns.org: The Forum - now open!Happy Birthday to Us!
Girlswithguns.org Turns TwoTwo years down, and girlswithguns.org continues to grow, at an almost disturbing rate - 133,000 visitors in the past year, 125% up on our rookie season. Since the start of 2005, we've been getting close to 500 visitors per day, and that's even after we opted out of Google's image search in September. The flood of voyeurs, uninterested in what we had to say here, sucked off so much bandwidth we had to buy more from Go Daddy.
Few things are more irritating than that...except possibly the people who remote-link to the pics here - particularly on livejournal, who were very close to Google in the number of referred visitors. For example, user Blue_grl0070 took the logo on our home page and was using it as her background. If she'd saved it to her own webspace, I'd have had no problems (hell, we adapted the image ourselves), but she was just leeching off us, without asking permission or giving us a link. She discovered the bad side of remote-linking - we can change the pic to absolutely anything we want... But we were very restrained, and just used the image on the right - sure she'll soon get the hint. Refer to an image in an entry, and you might get away with it; make it your background, and I will hunt you down and kill you. :-)

GIRLSWITHGUNS.ORGRight: onto lighter topics. What brought people here? Generic search terms like "girls with guns" remain the most popular; discarding those, and combining obviously-similar ones (like "anna nicole smith" and "anna nicole smith skyscraper"), gives us the following top 12:
- (10) aeon flux
- (-) anna nicole smith (skyscraper)
- (-) ilsa koch/she wolf of the ss
- (8) underworld/underworld guns
- (-) flat chested
- (2) barbarian queen
- (-) gloow
- (-) Kill Bill
- (3) gladiatrix
- (-) heather victoria ray
- (1) chopper girls
- (-) 2ldk
Figure in brackets is the year 1 ranking. As you can see, "Aeon Flux" has zoomed to the top of the list, no doubt on the back of the upcoming big-budget film with Charlize Theron - it's probably got a good shot at maintaining that position. Well, at least until the film comes out, anyway...see Catwoman and Elektra for details. Anna Nicole Smith came out of nowhere, though the review in question was well-ranked last year, and the Ilsa articles seem to have been popular. No.6 confuses me. ;-) Heather Victoria Ray is one of the Bikini Bandits, while last year's favourite almost plummets out of the top dozen altogether. Bubbling under are "witchblade", "tokyo girls", and "bobbie phillips" of Chameleon.
Here's the top twenty pages on the site, excluding administrative ones like the links and contents pages, since last May 6 [don't ask; I've no idea why it's that date either!]. As above, the previous year's rank is in brackets.
- (6) Anna Nicole Smith double-bill: Skyscraper and To the Limit
- (-) Kill Bill, Volume 1
- (1) Women Who Kick Butt box-set
- (10) Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS
- (5) Hell in the Cell
- (15) Big Boobs Buster
- (2) The Sidaris Zone
- (-) Aeon Flux
- (-) Underworld
- (4) The Arena - old vs. new
- (3) Gun Girls
- (-) Tokyo Blue, Case 1
- (-) Witchcraft X
- (-) Bikini Bandits: Freeze, Motherfu***rs!
- (11) Cape Fear: Action heroines, comic-book style
- (-) Wrestling Women USA
- (12) Barbarian Queen
- (-) Chameleon
- (19) Wrestling Queen
- (-) Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse
Most of the new entries have obviously been written more recently, though there's a cut-off point after which they haven't been around enough to generate sufficient hits. Making a strong early impression however are the pieces on Arizona Roller Derby and Women's Extreme Wrestling - the latter placed #23, despite having existed on the site for barely a month. Being #5 on a Google search clearly helps.
